Beautifully framed in paper covered poplar shadowbox, or suede upholstered outer frame, Paper-Cutstructions are priced on average between $700.00 and $2,000.00.
Some pieces are extremely large, and some incor-porate such di-verse elements as lead or rusted steel, brown paper bag sculpture, sand and lace.
Most of the Paper-Cutstructions reflect the themes of music, dance and praise, incorporating the dress, styles and look of many different cultures. Some though, are compositions of famliy, and natural themes.
These pieces, in which every single shape is cut or torn paper, are called "Paper-Cutstructions". They began with the ancient Jewish art form of Papercut. To this was added three dimensional built up areas, and playful color bands.
Some of the pieces have gold foil, beads and other elements inserted as part of the composition.
Michael Washer has been working with paper for more than fifteen years. Early in the nineties' he began to develop a three-dimensional quality to his paper pieces, and worked to develop them over the next decade.
