Studies in color, composition and the human figure, Washer's latest works  are compositions created to rediscover his own individual voice; to help others see what may have been taken for granted, and to feel a deeper sense of connection to others and to the world.

In 2006, Michael Washer took a job as a Middle School teacher and began to paint more universal themes; beautiful balanced compositions of people and nature; slices of life in parks and playgrounds, vacations and performances in interesting locales. He also began to stretch his media muscles, painting and creating on different substances while returning to traditional compositions in oil.

Adding thread-wrapped twigs, these compositions also break the flat picture plane to create images that are distinctly dirrerent; soft and natural, and at the same time carry the intense colors of the freedom of the Southwest and the joy of Washer's spiritual roots.

Around the year 2000, Michael Washer's "Papercut-structions" mixed with his paintings which were already incorporating paper and other materials. He began to search for more dimension to his work, and a way to break the bounds of 2 dimensions and build them out sculpturally. Out of this desire, a new art form - "Oil-Constructions" was born.

From early on, Michael Washer's paintings have included other media such as tea, sand, seeds and paper. He began to work out how to mix his draftsmanship in pencil, watercolor, acrylic and oil with a more simplified, flowing style to express his views of a simple Southwestern and spiritual life.
